THE PACT
Holiday 2009 edition
Happy Holidays to one and all! It's hard to believe it's already that time of year again: the nights are longer, colder and families are gathered cozily around.....FOOD. Lots of food, in fact! Doesn't it seem like there's more to endure with every holiday season? It can become difficult for those with GI motilty impairment to feel involved with a holiday that seems inherently focused on what we can't have. That's why I implore each and every one of you to revamp your perceptions of the holiday season with activities that stray from the dining room. Do you like to sing? Try caroling! Have you ever wanted to learn about how the cultures of the world celebrate in their own unique ways? Contact your city hall or check your home town's website for nearby celebrations and cultural activities. Some of my favorite childhood memories center around storytime, and my dad bringing me outside in the middle of the night to touch the first snowfall while gently singing "Silent Night". Be creative! There are many ways to find peace and hapiness this season in the midst of chronic illness. And when it does come time to face the buffet table, check out the options in the receipe corner of this edition of The PACT!
